It is known from the literature on presenteeism that musculoskeletal diseases are the most common chronic diseases causing presenteeism. This is also shown by the data of the study in which you participated.

1700 people participated in the study. The following graph shows the number of persons with musculoskeletal diseases, chronic diseases and persons without chronic diseases.

“Musculoskeletal diseases” is a collective term for various inflammatory and degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

These are among the most common diseases in the population today.

Back pain is one of the top complaints of the musculoskeletal system. Around 35 percent of the Swiss population suffered from back pain in a 2015 survey. This often affects professionals who are exposed to greater physical demands at work, such as people in the construction industry or the care sector. Neck pain, tendonitis and nerve damage affect around 32 percent of the Swiss population and are more common among people who spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen.
