The person receiving the feedback is in a passive role. However, they should also be aware of their role and observe rules, because it is not always easy to give feedback.
Listen, listen, listen
The most important rule when you receive feedback from someone is to listen. Don’t think ahead about how you will respond to the feedback you receive.
When you receive a critical argument, your brain is probably trying to gather counterarguments. This is distracting.
Let the other person finish – Listen.
Do not justify or defend yourself.
Understanding feedback – Asking for it.
Be grateful for feedback.
Take away what helps you.
Take note of the feedback and think about it calmly. At a later time you can talk about it again with the other person.
Accept and enjoy the positive feedback.
